Speaker Bio: Allen Blewitt [Speeches]

Allen Blewitt is the Chief Executive of
ACCA (the Association of Chartered
Certified Accountants). He was appointed
to the post in December 2003 after
having served as ACCA’s Executive
Director – Asia Pacific for the
preceding six months. ACCA is the
largest and fastest-growing global
professional accountancy body, with
115,000 members and 296,000 students in
170 countries.
In his role as CEO, Allen has focussed
on developing ACCA’s global network,
seeking to achieve greater collaboration
within the profession. He has also made
it a priority to build ACCA's relations
with key political and regulatory
stakeholders. He has initiated a number
of high-profile partnerships which have
increased ACCA's global reach and
reputation and given members access to
additional specialist services and
qualifications. He has inspired the
creation of ACCA’s approach to
developing influence in the profession
through a public policy unit. He is a
highly respected conference and media
presenter on key issues facing the
business community and accounting
profession.
Mr. Blewitt has made keynote speeches at the
following conferences in the last year:
on sustainability in the introduction to
a keynote speech delivered by Vice
President Al Gore in Hong Kong (August
2007); on ethics and professionalism at
the ACCA East Africa Convention,
attended by The Prime Minister of Uganda
(July 2007) and at the 8th International
Conference on Corporate Governance in
September 2007. He has also spoken
widely at CFO conferences in Europe,
North America, China and South East
Asia.
Mr. Blewitt joined ACCA directly from the
Institute of Chartered Accountants in
Australia (ICAA) where, over eighteen
years, he held a variety of senior
roles, including Deputy Chief Executive,
Head of Strategy & Innovation, Director
of Education and Professional
Development, and Director of Operations.
He was responsible for several major
projects including: the restructuring of
the professional entry programme; the
reviewing and rebuilding of student
marketing; the introduction of
specialisation; the restructuring of
member input/committee processes; a
revamped strategic planning and
corporate planning process; and thought
leadership initiatives on innovation for
the profession.
Mr. Blewitt’s career started at Sydney
University and Australian Catholic
University where he worked as a
lecturer. He holds the following
qualifications: BA(Hons), M.Ed, FAICD,
FAIM. He is married to Julie and has
three adult children who are currently
in Australia
